Max Bennett

Max Bennett was born in Illinois in 1936 and joined the United States Army in 1959. He attended Basic Training at Ft Leonard Wood, Missouri, graduated Airborne School and was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division. While there, Max completed Recondo School, Pathfinder School, and was the Honor Graduate of his Ranger School class.

Max was transferred to Ft Benning and graduated from Jumpmaster Course 1. He served with the 1st Cavalry Division in Vietnam in 1965-66 and was discharged from the Army in September1966. Max reenlisted in 1967 and returned to the 101st Airborne Division. He completed Vietnamese Language School in 1969 and returned to Vietnam as a Light weapons Infantry Advisor, 32nd Ranger Group, Army of the Republic of Vietnam.

Following his second tour in Vietnam, Max was assigned to Camp Frank D. Merrill as a Ranger Instructor. In 1973, he was assigned to 1/87th Infantry in Baumholder, West Germany, before returning to Camp Merrill in 1977. He served as the First Sergeant for the 2nd Ranger Company before completing one year as an ROTC Instructor for Riverside Military Academy and retired August 31, 1979.

Max continued to teach at Riverside Military Academy before losing a battle with cancer in 1993.
