Did you know you were the first RI that I saw put a Ranger student attention outside the HQ of PAC in front of that mirror. It was pouring down rain and I had gone to the TMC to use the latrine and I ask him what he was doing and he didn't even flinch. You came into to PAC and I ask you why that student was standing there in the rain and you told me he screwed up and was being reprimanded. I think he had a ND. I remember feeling so sorry for him. Now I don't, they don't get reprimanded like they used to thanks to some whiners. I am glad your mom is okay. She was indeed a very special lady. I will never forget those days, they were the best. 1SG Mott was in PAC when Randy Williford got killed. At that time I was just figuring out what the camp was all about but Randy was in charge of RSE. There are not many people left up there that remember the detail that came with the students. They pulled headcount in the messhall for the students, helped unload the commissary truck and whatever an RI or officer needed. When I say something about detail now, people think I am crazy. People don't believe that we have what I called "traveling medics" that came with the classes either. I remember one time when "Big Mac" was going into the commissary and his pants fell down and he just kept on whistling and pulled them up and kept on walking. Nothing phased that man. I don't mean to butt in but you guys are talking about things that most soldiers or civilians know about. It truly is amazing how training has changed. I just wish I could tell which one out of those Critter Cookout's/Open House this year is Reed Leisinger and Mike Farmer. Mike had a german shepherd dog that when Mike would go on long deployments, the dog wouldn't eat. That dog scared us one time. I don't remember where Mike went or the dogs name or who kept him but I remember them telling the 1SG about it. |

I was his Ops NCO when he reported in for duty, and I was still the Ops NCO when he left (swapped) with SGM Bill Miller. It was Miller who finally got me out of the Ops Shop and back into the business of being an RI. It was then that I went to the Mountaineering Committee and got to work for Gordon Roberts. Some of the best times of my life! |

Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Steve Hawk Message: Doug and Joe Jake and Hellen's son is Jake Brooks who by now is a SFC with 2nd Ranger Battalion. Little Jake joined the army right out of High School in 1999. He went to Regiment and was with First Battalion for the most part and now with 2nd Battalion. He is a member of USMRA Steve |
