Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Cathy Beck Message: Cookie the guy was Raymond George, he passed away with cancer. We also had James Watson who drove the garbage truck. He also has passed away. Doug Cook has retired from him plumbing business now and by what I hear enjoying life. There was "tall Paul", Paul Saine that work up there at that time and he kept Camp road scraped when it snowed and all the forestry roads scraped. He got killed working as supervisor for the county when a backhoe turned over on him. Ramsey was the deputy that worked the case. At that time we also had Tommy King who worked mainly with Paul. The drivers you were talking about was Steve Mayo, Alvin Lunsford, Tim Abercrumbie, Vicki Bruce's(who worked at the mess hall almost as long as Jimmy Padgett) husband who stayed at the motor pool for awhile under civil service and then he and Mayo worked as MP's until they were laid off. They were a couple more but I can't remember their names right now. That was back when Army was Army and they drove those old green dueces with tarps on them to haul the students around. Whether it be hot or cold those old trucks were running. I miss the "2nd Ranger Company", that was when students were trained like they should be trained. When the desert phase got cut out of the budget, things started changing. Then when it when to 5th RTBn it was okay but now the RI's cannot train students like they did in the old days. It just is not the same. Al do you remember that young soldier that worked with you in commo, I think his last name was Parker, boy he was a mess. I don't think you or Mr. Patton ever got him in a working mode. I still can see him standing between the commo door and PAC door with his long arms holding on to the top of the door rail just a talking away. I am sorry I am getting like "smoking Joe" memories just keep flowing after awhile. Just kidding you Joe. And yes one more thing about the past, Joe's mom cleaned the snaplink and mothered us all. She took care of more than the snaplink. She was one of the sweetest person's you would ever meet. |

Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: ~C Message: Joe - are you sure it wasn't Miller and Hall who swapped positions, with Hall going to Florida? Doesn't seem like Hall was around very long. And I'm having trouble picturing Fletcher...though I do remember Monroe. I don't have any Cealis to help me, but then again....I think with the brain that's above neckline, not below waistline. ;-) |
