Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Tom Wilburn Message: I will travel early Wednesday from Fort Meade, Maryland to be present and honor those being inducted into the Ranger Hall of Fame. Tentative plan has us staying at Fort Benning through Friday morning. I plan to attend the BBQ on Wednesday afternoon and the Change of Cmmand on Thursday. I will have an old 1-75 Ranger buddy, Mr.Gordon Hockman, traveling with me both days. His son is now in 1-75 currently serving OCONUS. We plan to visit the old Ranger Department area and walk down memory lane before the pines reclaim all signs of that sacred place. |

Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: JIM OWENS Message: The Policy was changed to; The Ranger Students would not complete the Swamp Crossing at night, which included a river crossing, if the Temp Dropped below 50 degrees before they entered the Swamp/Water. The P.I. would call in the Temp to the Base Commander for permission to enter the water. |

Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Jim Owens Message: Upper Command Channels have known for years woman would have significant failures across the board for female Rangers trying to pass male standards; only problem is when they go into combat the enemy will not give a damn about their female ranger status and will kill them without breaking a sweat, that's if they can make it to the objective since they will not have to meet the same physical standards. *** SOLUTION *** For upper Chain of Command - - - When all else fails lower your standards - - - - Some people do not understand not everyone gets a “Trophy for Excellence” yet it seems our leadership wants to make Winners of everyone who shows up…. Even if they have to lower the standards to get there … I guess we could always call a time out on the battlefield if things get to tough, I’m sure the enemy would understand… |
