Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Mark Jordan S1 Message: ...just reminding those who forgot the date, a request for help in cleaning up Shady Grove Cemetery with the families... ...***The cleanup would consist of weed eaters, spraying for weeds, etc. Nothing big like taking down all the trees.....sure don't want to start another war with anyone since the first one hasn't ended. So, if you want to pass this on to Steve and others at the meeting, then maybe some Boy Scouts or his ROTC class could help out or anyone that wants to volunteer. We would love for some of you to show up and let the families meet you, of course everyone knows Doug but he is about the only one. Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Mark Jordan Message: ...100 six pound turkeys were delivered to The Overhang today by Amie Close, wife of Ranger Roy Close... ...Amie graciously, for the third year in a row, contacted her brother of Walt Koch, Ltd, to request the generous donation each year. She goes to the warehouse, out beyond the city of Gainesville to get them loaded, returning to Camp Merrill with amazing birds any table would appreciate at Thanksgiving... ...thirty were left at the Camp with Frank Park, Overhang Manager and seventy were brought to LCHS, where Steve Hawk, President, had freezer facilities and families of students he knew that could appreciate this kindness... ...all of us at Camp Merrill, USMRA and those seventy smiling families, happy and grateful for their many blessings...may not know who did this but enough should know and appreciate Amie and Roy for thinking of our young lions...and Walt Koch, Ltd too... ...RLTW... ...Mark USMRA FINANCE MINISTER |

Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Jim Regan Message: Earl, had the chance to serve with Janos in the 101st, a hunert years ago. We were in the same Rifle company, Company E, 1st Battle Group, 501st Infantry, 101st Airborne Division, Ft. Campbell KY. He was in a Rifle Platoon and I was in the Weapons Platoon. We missed serving with each other at MRC. Seems as if several of us from the same Rifle Company showed up at MRC. Julian Luna, "Red" Redden Brinkley, William Bell, and me. Pretty good for one Rifle Company, circa 1958-1962. If I'm not mistaken, Jan was one of the "Hungarian Freedom Fighters" in '56. We had about three of them in the outfit. the names ; Sali & Zuliman come to this ol' brain gear. Break, break. Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: J.D. Kirby Message: On Jan. 15 (Sun.), at 1400, there will be a ceremony at Camp Merrill to honor and spread the cremated ashes of COL(R) Fred Scruggs. This distinguished soldier served on active duty for 30 years, primarily in Special Forces. He served at Camp Merrill in 1967-68. All are invited to attend. The service will be conducted at the bridge to the airstrip. Coffee and fellowship to follow in the Overhang. |
