Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Joe Mattison Message: For Doug Perry: My regards to you and yours with the passing of Mrs Jones. She is remembered. For Cookie: No, Grandma hasn't passed away. She's healthier now then she's ever been, and a whole lot more independent. Jan and I adopted a little girl, and we want her to be in the school system that she's going to grow up in. She starts Kindergarten next year. I am looking at working for the VA in NY, but that's not 100% yet. Thanks for asking. |

Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Joe Mattison Message: Thanks Mr Rice for all of your input. I think all of us Ranger Retirees can relate to what your saying. The after life of us Rangers actually makes us have to work for a living. Our best times were when we were cold, hungry, and wet...but with our fellow Ranger Buddies, doing those things that we loved best. We just didn't know it then. Please keep your stories coming as you think of them. You and others like you represent the Camp and it's cadre from your time, and from your experiences. Our Camp History has passed on from generation to generation by word of mouth, and a lot of it is beginning to bet lost in the stories. All of us appreciate the stories told by others, no matter when we served at the MRC. To Bill Breen...yes, there was a Stafford at the Fla Ranger Camp. You are correct, he was a big guy made even bigger if you were one of the less fortunate Ranger Students who underwent the famous POW training phase at the Fla Camp when it was part of the instruction. Ranger Instructor Stafford of the Fla Camp was one of the "goons" who served in the training portion of "Hard Cell", when we Ranger Students, Stripped to our birthday suits with a number on a string around our necks had the "opportunity" to meet Ranger Instructor Stafford in his role of Hard Cell training. Same last name, different Stafford. He was of the "Billy Jack" era and the other Fla Ranger Instructor who never rolled down his sleeves no matter how cold it was....can't remember his name, but loved to watch us dig into our fighting positions every time we Patrol Based...as we dug, all night long.
