No air bags deployed, unassed the truck, two Gals, who were behind me, called 911, and asked about me. I struggled up the muddy bank, no blood, teeth, or hair on the steering wheel.Sheriff's Deputy arrived and took charge. No evac for me, got worse than that when Bobby McMahon put me out of an L-20 in HIGH WINDS!!!I still recall Kenny Davenport, my Jumpmaster, slapping me on the leg as Bobby hollered, over the radio "EXECUTE, EXECUTE, EXECUTE!!!" As I left the AC I heard "ABORT, ABORT' ABORT!!!" TOO LATE BOBBY, I thought!!!Nothing but RED smoke trackiing across the DZ just as fast as the AC was travelling.Old TALE of great days at the MRC. Deputy took me to Lumpkin County line, and another Deputy from Lumpkin gave me a ride to the Super 8. Settled in, took a hot "Bath," relaxed and started the phone calls. Knew there was no way to call you guys on a cell phone. Changed and checked out of motel, took a cab (69 bucks) to Gainesville Bus Depot. Nobody home. Tried to get hold of Langdon but he was out of the net. By the time he got back to me, I had friends from Atlanta on the way to get me. "RON'd" at their place, and in the AM, they took me to Atlanta airport, car rental. Drove back to Dawsonville.Nobody home at Body shop, headed to Lexington. Got home 'round 20:30, saturday nite. Spent sunday getting my stuff in order w/ the claims agent. (lots to do and finger out w/ distance involved.) Skipped church, took a shower and assessed damage. Seat belt left it's mark, couple of black and blue marks, and a little bit feeling sorry for myself. Got out of that mode and took wife to lunch. Had a couple of calls yesterday before I got home; Bobby Meadows and Mike Jaussaud. If I had had my brain in gear, I'd of stayed at the Super 8, and linked up w/ you all at MRC. Could have hitched a ride w/ those two Rangers on Sunday, today. Hindsight 20/20. I just had to keep on movin and feeling as if I was headed home. This has been a LONG note, sorry. I sure wanted to see you guys. Like the old baseball saying "Wait til next year!!!" Put me on your "prayer list!" Jim RLTW |

Did USMRA plan to lay a wreath? Break, break.Would have enjoyed talking w/ Scot Hammond. Had a 72' Coast Guard Cutter at Fortress Belvoir. (Drug Interdiction on Potomac.) Took me a while to discover that it was tied up at a slip on Potomac, at the Post.(had 17 miles of river front property there.) The Commander of the "Boat" was a Female, Coast Guard Chief, E-7. Never did take her up on offer for a ride on the boat! Seven days on the USNS Upshur, Brooklyn to Panama, cured me of any BOATING!!! My Ol' man was a Navy Chief. That was not for me. Y'all stay warm & dry. Jim RLTW/L&P |
