Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: ron rice Message: noll was from shamokin pa. he was married to a local girl who has relatives in the county. her name was vera. they had two sons mark and bart. we all had aka's or nicknames whichever. he was affectioinately known as "barney" as in barney fife because of his stature and he favored that character on the a griffith show. however, he was one of the most intelligent nco's that i ever met. he was well read and knew something about ev erything from goldfish to something minute in history. what i said about dp was certainly true he was a great ranger and nco, just a little fiesty when he was down at the club and had a few 3.2's. i never seen that pocket patch. so, i am not familiar with it. i believe someone should suggest to the ranger dept that all ri's should wear the black and gold tab, after all thats what its all about. a sundued patch to me is for combat area. by the way i know you think i am pulling your leg on these aliases, but they are true sfc rumph a non ranger mountaineer from ft. greely was shot in the foot and stomach in vn and when he walked his foot slapped the ground so we called him gimpy, he lives around atlanta. we had another sfc i will think of his name later who took some shrapnel in the left eye from vn his left eye pupil was permanently stuck to the left side of the socket, so when he drove his truck down the road he had to turn his head all the way to the right. you guessed it, we called him "angle eye. j crump lived up towards toccoa he was shot in the knee in vn and couldn't straighten his leg out, but he still taught mountaineering and walked patrol. he had a ranger heart. we called him crip. when i was camp operations nco i administered the pro pay tests and everyone on the rope comm always scored high cause i had the answers. tom boggs ret sfc could probably be abig help on this. he lived in cane creek valley right around the corner from stafford. toccoa ga was a big site for abn troops at one time back in wwII. the mrc ammo dump as i recall was straight back past motor pool and engineering. cq had to check it 2 times at night. we used to have a permanent 3 rope bridge across the creek at the top of the falls at the 60 ft cliff area. once a year they use to bring a gator from the fla camp up to us for the summer and we would walk it around the students down at the dam site where we taught 1,2,3 rope bridges. i have pictures. one summer in between classe stafford, noll and i helped a. howard hand dig a 30 ft well using a windlass and bucket to haul up the dirt on his property on the left on r camp rd. more later RLTW rice |

That would be Bobby Richardson, He left CFM and went to NGC about the time you retrived that body from the Chestatee river.This Richardson was a retired Msg from the BRC patrolling comm. He was a Lumbie Indian form Lumberton N.C..He was there when I went thru Ranger School in 62. Later he was in the Airborne Dept.I swear I did not know Bobby Richardson was CSM, CFM.I dont think he is on the past CSM list of the CFM. I will check and post it.RLTW. |
