Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Joe Mattison Message: Fellow Rangers: These are the 9 remaining Rangers from the 3/75 list that needs to be clarified and updated. They are listed by Date of Death and Name. All of these 9 were killed in training while in service with 3/75. The only information requested are three things: 1. The Company that the Ranger was assigned to. 2. The location of his death...example: Ft Benning, Dugway Proving Grounds, Ft Bragg, etc,. 3. Situation of death....examples: Parachute Accident, Drowning, Vehicle Accident, Demo Range, Live Fire Exercise, Fast Rope, Fall from Building,..etc. If anyone can help, in order to clear up the "Killed In Training" Roster of 3/75, it would be greatly appreciated. The following Rangers by Date who were Killed in Training are: 20 Sep 1984 PVT Westley B. McDavid, 22 Nov 1987 PFC Neil Secor, 29 Dec 1987 SGT Alan Johnson, 3 Sep 1988 SPC David W. Hughes, 28 Jan 1991 PFC Toby John K.P. Young, 11 July 1991 PFC Michael K. Foley, 22 Sep 1993 PFC Alvis Hicks, 18 Oct 1993 PV2 Christopher Brown (we think he was killed on a Demo Range at Ft Benning?), 2 Apr 1994 PFC Ward Benson. If anyone can remember: 1.Company that the Ranger was assigned, Place that the Ranger was killed, 3. Brief summary of how the Ranger was Killed, we certainly appreciate your support. This information is to be used by 3/75 only for Historical Purposes, and to give clarification to the names that are carved into their current Memorial Stone. Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Mark Jordan Message: Hi Mark, I know a big weekend is ahead for all of you but wanted you to pass on at the MRA meeting over the weekend that the family had set May 19th as a clean up day for Shady Grove Cemetery. We did this back last October when we all met at the church and agreed to pass ownership to the MRA. There is one person driving down from N.C. because her relatives are buried there and she has never been able to find the cemetery. The cleanup would consist of weed eaters, spraying for weeds, etc. Nothing big like taking down all the trees.....sure don't want to start another war with anyone since the first one hasn't ended. So, if you want to pass this on to Steve and others at the meeting, then maybe some Boy Scouts or his ROTC class could help out or anyone that wants to volunteer. We would love for some of you to show up and let the families meet you, of course everyone knows Doug but he is about the only one. May 19th is a Saturday and if the weather continues to be this hot, I don't expect we will be up there very long. I plan to remind/notify family members unless there is an objection from the MRA. Have a great Open House. Bobbie Butler ***reply***Always good to hear from you Bobbie and I'm posting your letter to the USMRA Message Board as you wrote it... ...I am scheduled since 3 months ago to be up in Virginia that weekend but I do hope others will attend. ...With Doug Perry, the Governor, being the one member that most of the family knows, it'd be a real missed opportunity for the families not to meet some more of our Rangers...those that are monosyllabic and keep dragging their knuckles...no where near as refined and gentlemanly as Doug is...usually we encourage them not to attend meetings as explanations would triple the time of our meetings...but they'll ne good for manual labor...
