Posted: 03/10/2020 Name: Bob Williams Message: CSM Barron served as the CSM of the 5th RTBn and Camp Merrill from 2000-2003, then as the University of North Georgia's Military Science Department SGM from 2003-2007. He passed away on Wednesday last week at his home in Dahlonega after his fight with ALS. Byron was cremated and his ashes will be interred in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA on Friday, 20 March, 0900. The 5th RTBn is providing a military detail including firing detail (7), NCOIC, flag detail (6), flag presenter, chaplain. LTC Basso, his CSM, and CSM (Ret) Kevin Connell will attend the funeral as well. The public is invited to a memorial service on the same day - Friday, 20 March, 1500 in the convocation center multi-purpose room, UNG Dahlonega Campus. Doors will open at 1400 for social and light snacks and drinks. Please pass to those who knew Byron or the family.
