Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Mike Flack Message: Joe, I think you spoke for a lot of people with your longer message. We have all been frustrated at one time or another. One of the best talks I ever heard was at Ft. Benning when I was a 2LT. This was even before I went to Ranger School. We were a bunch of snot nosed, arrogant young ********, constantly bitching. This Engineer LTC stood up and talked to us very quietly and I have never forgotten it. He said, you know, we all see things that are wrong from time to time and we don't like it. We think it's a bunch of shit. But as leaders, we are all shit stoppers. Each of us has the ability and power to stop some shit. And the more rank you get, the more shit you can stop. So stop griping and start doing what you can do to stop shit whenver you can. To this day, I think about that and take any opportunity I can to stop some shit. I think maybe that's what you do. I think maybe everybody who regularly reads this log does the same thing. We're all shit stoppers and I see no reason to quit. After all, like Doug Perry said at his induction ceremony, we may be getting older, but we're still dangerous. |
