Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: RONRICE Message: i will try to send things from time to time about my two tours at mrc. there will not be any order to them from this 68 year old mind. others that come to mind chuck noll rope comm, bobby lykens pat comm and kia in vn plane crash stafford and i attended his funeral along with others from mrc as pallbears there is a street named for him at mrc. pappy hudson was at one time acting sgm at mrc. pappy reed (AKA THE MOONSHINE MAN) a non ranger but a darned good man. he was either supply or cook and and sfc. "digger lee" was known by another name thats why i used igger lee. w. langdon was on pat comm and affectionately known as "gatemouth" played a gretsch guitar along with kenny (sfc last name escapes me, from ohio) the mountaineers i spoke of came from ft greely. they were great and i learned a lot from them. they had a good assignment at mrc no lane grading on patrols. sfc crump was the camp champion arm wrestler and when we came off yonah and stopped for a few beers. he would arm wrestle the local civilians at the tavern and as far as i can remember never bought a beer. this is not a braggarts comment but i made e7 in ten years but only with the help of gatemouth and kenny. i was told that i was to report to ft. benning to go before the pro board i only had 14 months in grade. gatemouth and kenny schoolhoused me for 2 weeks on everything about the army. i never missed a question on the board, as a matter of fact a major ask me to slow down on my answers. that was jan 68 i was promoted in sept 68. but only with the help of those two. i remember anytime we had to haul something or move from on residence to another around dahlonega. we just went to the motor pool and took a deuce and a half. many times when the camp truck went to ft. benning for supply articles it had to make a stop at staffords house in cane creek valley to off load sleeping bags etc. you should have seen his basement. one time he needed a metal culvert and the supply truck dropped it off at his house thanks to mr jackson. but we all got things from him and others that we probably would go to jail for if we got caught. i remember a capt gailitis (he was unaffectionately called SCOPE). capt wm palmer was a pat comm member (now a ret full bull at bragg) he was acapt/maj and my plt ldr when i was a lrrp plt sgt. maj bischoff very good man known as the (whippet) from his stature. this is a true story about him. it was on a halloween night and i lived on the ranger camp rd about a 1/4 to 1/2 mile off main rd. anyway there was a knock on my door and it was maj bischoff dressed up like and indian maiden or squaw with his face all painted up, a wig with pigtails and a suede dress on and actually said trick or treat. he and i were the best of friends. once when i lived up on the hill across from cane creed grocery. Palmer the former i spoke of came by to see me after his return from vn on his way to and SF command. by the way, when i lived there i raised 12,000 chickens a year thats a fact. more to come later. Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Joe Mattison Message: Thanks Steve foryur update, and with regards to this up and coming CCO in April....I'm looking forward to it. I'd like to take a moment to ask the entire membership to review the Constitution and Bylaws of our organization. Article II: "Brotherhood among all Rangers". Article V: section 2: "the Association". section 3: "the Association". By Laws: "the Association". The word "Association" is printed into our Constitution and ByLaws throughout, but are we in fact acting as an "Association"? The concept of "Congress" within the local area who consist of members who can meet regularly and do the decision making process is effective, but is it a "Congress"? Are these local members empowered to represent the entire Association consisting of nearly 1000 members who live Nation wide and in some cases Internationally? Is this "Congress" made up of "elected members" by the "Association", or by members who convene locally. All of these are "points to ponder" only....and as we look towards the future of our Organization and apply the modern modums of communications to include Internet....are we effectively representing every member of the "Association"? As it is now, and as it is for the immediate future, I think were adequate and sufficient, but as our membership continues to grow, it's also not to be unexpected that more members will want to become more involved, which is a good thing, not a bad thing...."Points to Ponder".
