Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Jim Regan Message: Back in the days of yesteryear, the "Slide for Life" as we called it(Victory Pond AO,)was a real challenge for us. Once you made the climb up to the plank (maybe 30 ft or more,) then walked the plank, (seemed to us as if the plank was only three inches wide,) out to a platform. An Instructor would show you the handle bar on the pulley, tell you to latch on, and them he said, "Do a pullup Ranger." Without hesitation, you did a pull up and were ON YOUR WAY!!! You hung on for dear life and watched the Instructor at the bottom of the slide. When he waved the flag, you let go and crashed into the water. Then the short swim to the bank. This was back in Summer of 1961. Jim RLTW |

Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Bob Suchke Message: Just learned that COL Elliot P. Sydnor - Ground force commander during the Son Tay raid into North Vietnam on 21 NOV 1970 has passed away. He was a Ranger and Special Forces Officer without equal. A most outstanding soldier. He will be missed. For details: http://www.veterantributes.org/TributeDetail.php?recordID=779 |

More recycles were possible for injury or illness but I thought only one for a failure. I went thru a long time ago (class 7-72) so maybe things have changed or I could just be completely wrong. |
