Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Mark Jordan Message: USMRA March 7, 2013 Mtng ...a Ted Tilson collection of minutes...in honor of RM1R32N and Staff... ...after Padre's Prayer we went into minutes and money reports, then onto CCO/Open House... ...Open House got cancelled...30 minutes of unnecessary information... ....Easter Egg Hunt at Porter Village discussion was ended with an appeal for help...(Steve Hawk and Mark Jordan, along with Chris Fuller held on til noon, hiding eggs, cooking until one more, Mountain Mike came and we switched two tanks of propane out by the end of it)... ...a commemorative bottle of Dawsonville Moonshine is being scrutinized by Steve Hawk and Bob Suchke...engraving and all... ...that's it... ...be here tonight for some laughter and fun and surprises!... ...RLTW... ...respectfully submitted by Lt Fuzz, Secretarial Treasurer |

I was at the Camp back in summer/fall 1967 as an RI.I was one of 12 or more 2LTs( in Cpts slots) fortuate enough to gain exp,VN insight and coaching from veteran Cpts and NCO's.A blessing.A great assignment. Another reason: I met my wife from Gville in D at NGC. Obviously in all of Ranger Rice's posts, You read about cadre and its characters ( Rice fit in perfectly)All pros, 1st class,selfdirected,passionate and competent,had a zest for life. Yes all partied,wheeled and dealed, had fun but they trained Rangers. Everyone took that goal very serious.It was infectious. As young officers we were aggressive,reckless, living life in fast lane on the way to war and certainly in awe of the Vets.Think about working w guys like Cpt Joe Marm( MOH),Cpts Larry Ring, Ton Carl, Scruggs,Sr NCO's and many others were SF types w multi tours already.Every man senior to us were Vets. Awe...we were like kids at the World Series. Other Cpts I remember" Ashby was S-3, McNeil,Jin Guest, Bob Smith, Chuck Kranyak,Marty Pinsky, Magruder.Lts: John Hardy,Rich McDowell, Baker, Steve Spense, Demko, Cahill,Julian Martinez,George Close,Dan Roach, O'Brien, List,Gary Gromet. Cpt Bill Brantley(69) Lt Mike Enbody(68) and Lt Steve Whisnant(71) were KIA. George Close still w Boston accent retired a 2 star. I did a short tour w 1st Cav in spring68 and retired early.All good. in 67,I lived in an ugly pink ranch house and shared site w 2 doublewides on Camp W Rd Right next to the CaneyCreek store w gas pumps. Grisells(sp) were owners maybe.Ten years ago the store was open,The MRS still there, not much inventory but a hanging out place around a heater for locals.SNAP LINK was name of O club at the camp. wooden green bldg on right of camp enterance I'll be back in the area mid Oct.Hope to connect More later Vince Laurich (67) |

Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Mike Keohane Message: A lot of changes over the years, Jim. Before 1961, the students went through the Swamp phrase before finishing at Dahlonega. The students with their water-soaked feed had way too many foot problems in the Mountain phrase so the Swamp & Mountain phrases were switched. Your class was one of the first to benefit from the change. They also changed the distance swimming requirements for admission to the course. Too late for me but a much better distance swimming requirement was the result. The Ranger School is always trying to make the training experience better. |
