Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Mike Flack Message: I just saw the press conference with the female and male graduates. Did anyone else see that? Maybe it's just me, but they looked way too well fed and well rested to be recent graduates of Ranger School. When did they actually complete the course? I didn't see any hollow eyes or sunken cheeks or any of the other signs that used to show on recent Ranger School graduates. I hope someone else saw this and can comment. |

We were introduced by a mutual acquaintance who pointed out that we were both airborne qualified. We played the where-were-you/who-do-you-know until he asked about you. Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Michael Keohane Message: Deep Dark Secret! In the early days, it was difficult to get enlisted instructors for the Mountain Camp. Airborne Ranger (Tabbed or Scrolled) NCOs with combat experience were wanted but seldom available. One reason was that the married ones saw no decent housing for their families and the unmarried ones preferred Benning or Elgin. So, to make sure that sufficient instructors were available, exceptions were made. When I was a RI on the Long Range Patrolling Committee, we were authorized 12 NCO Instructors. What we had was 8 people. Five were either tabbed or scrolled, one was an Airborne NCO with combat experience and the last two were Sp/4 Keohane & Pfc Hamilton. Both Fish & Hamilton managed to get slots for Ranger School & got their tabs. I did not get a slot and was sent to Berlin. |

I gotta say though that yesterday when Doug got up there to say his peice it was really something to behold and I hope it was recorded for everyone else's sake. DO YOU HAPPEN TO REMEMBER ANY CONVERSATION ABOUT AN R.I. JUMPING OUT OF THE AIRCRAFT TO THE CRASH SITE, TO ASSIST WITH INJURIES ??? I SURE WISH I COULD REMEMBER IS NAME, AS I REMEMBER THINKING TO MYSELF, ** WOULD I HAVE JUMPED FROM TREE TOP LEVEL OR NOT, TO THE SIDE OF A MOUTAIN FREE FALL, WITH JUST MY BOOTS ON, NO ROPE-- ???
