Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Mike Flack Message: I just got home but wanted to add my report on the ceremony today while it is still fresh in my mind. As has already been said, it was a great ceremony and very well run. I was truly in awe of the people who were there. One gentleman in the room was a member of Merrill's Marauders. Two or more went in with the Ranger Battalions on D-Day. One of the inductees was a Marine and there was a veteran of Iwo Jima there to honor him. It was a room full of great people and it was an honor for me to just be in the same room with them. That statement goes for Doug Perry too. I'm just proud to say I know him. They were all great soldiers, every one of them, Rangers well worthy of the honor. Doug Perry's citation makes one heckuva story. I haven't checked to see if it is on line anywhere, but I hope it is because everyone should read it. Just one more comment: I don't recall Doug ever giving me a sandwich. I don't know if I should be proud or not. I guess I'll pick proud and stick with it. Rangers Lead The Way! |

Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: OWENS Message: JOE-- I THINK THERE WAS ANOTHER HELICOPER (UH1-N, TWO ENGINE MODEL SLICK)THAT CRASHED JUST ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TVD. I AM THINKING IT WAS 1979 OR 1980 TIME FRAME, I THINK IF MY MEMORY SERVES ME RIGHT, TWO SLICKS TOOK OF FROM MOSBY TOGETHER, THEY BOTH CROSSED THE TVD AND JUST PAST THE TVD ONE OF THEM LOST A TRANMISSION. AS THE HUEY WAS FALLING OUT OF THE SKY THE PILOT WAS ABLE TO TURN THE NOSE OF THE AIRCRAFT UP HILL SO WHEN IT CRASHED THE FUEL WOULD FLOW DOWN HILL. THE FIRST BIRD OBSERVED THE HUEY DROP, FALL INTO THE TREE TOPS, WENT OVER TO THE TREE TOPS TO SEE HOW BAD IT WAS, AND IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY IT WAS ABLE TO GET LOW ENOUGH FOR AN R.I. TO JUMP FROM THE AIRCRAFT TO THE CRASH SITE TO SEE IF EVERY BODY WAS OK. I THINK IT WAS SSG BRADFORD OR ANOTHER RI FROM PATROLLING THAT ACTUALLY JUMPED TO THE GROUND, I'M JUST NOT SURE OF HIS NAME RIGHT NOW, IF I REMEMBER IN THAT ONE ALL LIVED-- DO YOU REMEMBER THIS ONE OR AM I JUST --- DISCOMBOBULATED WITH ANOTHER PLACE. Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Al Parten Message: Rangers you are all taking my sarcasm wrong. Although I did hear the vote that Rangers only can attend the CCO. Also that no wives or girlfriends can be there. If I heard it wrong then enlighten me. Tammy and always plan a short vacation in the Spring and Fall, so if we are away, I won't be able to attend, on the other hand if we are around I will of course help out. Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: McElliott Message: So I open the Gym were I work at 4am and turn on the tv's and just as I walk by the last one ABC New came on and had a special so I stopped and watched it and low and behold there he was big as live Col. Robert Howard! Thats right they did a 15min special on him and how he won the Medal Of Honor in VietNam!! What a deal. RGR MAC |
