Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Mark Jordan Message: ...even I met Lew Millett...he was living out in west tennessee when I left the Army and had my first Chick-fil-a restaurant in Jackson, TN... ...some feather merchant named Isaac Tigrett opened up a little bbq place called "the hard rock cafe"...and he had me for competition...his mother and uncle owned the mall where we were both located...and as good as my business became in ´83, I couldn´t understand why the mother was giving me such a hard time...she was "old money" from railroads and much too refined to even notice one of her tenants...but she was furious at me for doing so well... ...a few months later, Isaac closed the doors on his place, taking all the john lennon pictures, elvis guitars and all that other junk to NYC...and he´s done okay since then...but try to compete with a Ranger?...pity the fool... ...Lew Millett told me that day of his son who went down on the plane that exploded...right now I´m trying to remember if it was the Lockerbie, Scotland bombing that claimed others of the 101st back in the early 80's... ...he was in town for some ceremony...Medal of Honor heroes do get called for those times of national pride and like Ted said, he somehow took a shine to me too and told me stories and how he still did one armed push ups until I thought I needed to do some serious PT just to be around the man... ...each one of us, as RI´s made an impression on some young stud, and we probably didn´t even realize it...but for each of us...to remember the admiration and appreciation of the legends among us keeps the blood clear and the life flowing...and they are with us today...at each meeting, at each CCO... ...and still, among us, are giants who walk this earth, and for those who´ve gone before, they watch over us from wherever they choose to be... ...RLTW brothers... |

Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Michael M. Keohane Message: Not "Ranger" Keohane - could not pass the swim test so cound not take the course. This was just after those Marine recruits drowned and the rules were strictly enforced. I had been swimming in the Alantic since six and was a strong swimmer but I was not a fast swimmer. I could do the distance but not in the required time. I dropped by Camp Merrill last year and the only thing I recognized were the watertower and the landing strip. everything else was new. I will in the area from the 5th through the 9th of May. Looking to meet some other "old-timers" as well as the younger crowd. |

Posted: 12/31/1969 Name: Mark Jordan Message: ...Minutes from USMRA Meeting 5 April 2012... ...in keeping with the abbreviated version of the minutes, here goes... ...Steve Hawk, President and Dan Rhodes, Treasurer not present... ...Willard Langdon, Chaplain, prayer... ...Mark Jordan, Secretary, minutes read, short version... ...Al Parten, Vice President, tried to talk over the shouting "ooh rahs" of the recycles out back of the Overhang with the meeting held on the porch...nothing heard from anyone til they were thru... ...considerable talk about the CCO...more talk about where a tent can be put than it would have taken for me to read the long version of the minutes...but I'm not bothered...tent placement is a crucial part of the success of any CCO...Bob Williams confirmed the new t shirts are going to include a few tents for those who like something more than anorexic attire... ...19 present with a shortened meeting beginning at 1902 hours.. ...please attend the Fish Fry on 4 May; stay for the CCO and Open House, Fallen Ranger dedication and Planning Bay designations of former RI's on 5 May, Cinco de Mayo for those needing some easy reminder and help us all clean up the next day when the hardiest of bodies will still be stirring... ...no news on the redesignation of the USMRA to a non-profit Veterans Organization, so the cemetery is still on hold for transferring ownership... ...a long version of the proceedings, usual fare for this S1, will be posted for those who have time to read the minutes rather than consider if it's okay to put up a personal tent near the cooking area as has been the practice since I can remember... ...meeting ended at 1937... ...respectfully submitted... ...Mark Jordan, S1... |

I am scheduled for a 10:00 AM appointment to check my left leg - you know, the one that has metal in it from that accident in Dahlonega. So, I will be making the "Fish Fry" but will be driving back to New York on Saturday. Good news is that this should be the last examination of the leg. See everyone at the "Fish Fry." RLTW |
