I hate to pass along sad news. Ranger Garry Curtis's mother, Dolly, passed away. She's going to be cremated, and her remains will be buried in Michigan (with Garry's father) this summer. There are no services being planned in Dahlonega.
I asked Garry if we could do anything. He said in lieu of flowers make any donations in her name to the US Mountain Ranger Association.
The USMRA will continue to support members of the Blind Veterans Association (BVA) as they continue to section hike the Appalachian Trail. In October they will be hiking the section from the North Carolina/Georgia border at Blue Ridge Gap to Fontana Dam. We are looking for association members and/or community members who know the area and can help us determine overnight locations and evacuation locations along the AT. We especially need hikers who can time each 7 – 14 mile segment in order to determine a schedule. Forest Service cooperation is essential and any contacts will be appreciated. If you can help out with any aspect of this event, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thanks for your support,
Meeting tonight 1900 at the Overhang. See you there .
